| How to get here? | IPEM is located next to the big Ghent University library tower ("boekentoren" in Dutch) built by the famous Belgian architect Henri Vandevelde. The tower in its turn is located near a big square known as the "Sint-Pietersplein". If you ever get lost in the city (chances are very small, as is Ghent), just ask for one of these places. More info on the city itself can be found here. |
| by airplane | There is no airport in Ghent, so unless you bring your private helicopter, you'll need to take a flight to Zaventem (the main international airport in Belgium) or another smaller airport (like Charleroi). From the airport, you will need to take a train or taxi (rather expensive) to Ghent. |
| by train | There are trains to Ghent from any major city in Belgium, including direct trains from the main airport (about 1 hour). Take a train to "Gent, Sint-Pieters", which is the main railway station in Ghent. From there, it will take you about 10 to 15 minutes by foot to get to the IPEM offices. During the day, we advise you to take the shortcut through the "Citadelpark" since that's a much nicer walk than using the main roads. If you feel tired or when the weather is bad, you can also take a bus or tram departing in front of the railway station. |
| by car | Ghent is located just north-west of the crossing of highways E40 (Brussels - Oostende) and E17 (Kortrijk - Antwerp). Since Ghent is rather small and has very good public transportation, you'll hardly ever need your car in the city. Most of the inner part is car-free anyway (but not the part where IPEM is located). |
| inside the building | Once you have made it to the Rozier, the best thing to do is climb the stairs of the main entrance opposite the "boekentoren". Follow the sign "IPEM" pointing to the left. At the end of the long corridor turn left. You will notice stairs, and a very small elevator. Make your choice, but remember you will have to go to the second floor. Once you are there, open the door on your right. Welcome at IPEM! |
